Folks, the Truckee has been fishing well the last few weeks. Plenty of bugs about mid-day through the evening. Big skwalas and lots of blue wings. Some people are getting them on the dries if you study the water. I’ve been nymphing quite a bit and having positive results on a birds nest, baetis, SJ, glow-bug, any midges. (any style, size 18/20) The flows are primo right now, but I don’t think they will hold for much longer without more snow. The clarity is good below Truckee, but the further you get into the canyon it becomes “steelhead green” by color. They fish are still eating and you have to make sure your variables are met in order to present the fly correctly. Proper weight is ideal. Get down and dirty! The weather forecast for the coming weeks looks great. The Truckee could possibly have a short season due to snow pack, so the next few months could be the only window of opportunity. Below are some shots of recent river success! I have the next week available. Some dates are already booked at the end of March.
Tightlines, please give me a call if you would like to book a trip!
