Winter still not done? Truckee River Update 4/14/16

IMG_1628

Well we got a bit of snow last night (awesome!).  The snow pack we have, should set us up for the rest of the season here in Truckee.  The flows have been great the last month or so.  Its looking like 285 through town, 1000 or so around Boca confluence, & 1160 through the canyon.  Lots of people get intimidated with these flows, but my advice is to check the water you want to fish and try to “think” like a fish.  The fish don’t want to work hard for their food, so look for the soft water and edges of fast runs.  Thats where they should be…. On that note, we are still seeing skwalas, lots of baetis, and soon (hopefully) some PMD’s.  The baetis has been the ticket for me lately.  High-sticking and indicator fishing with lead have been the most productive.  Streamers in the tail-outs of runs also have productive.  Heres a few photos from the last few days with clients and some personal R&D…

Have any questions feel free to give me a call.  I will be guiding until May 4, then I am back to the “Last Frontier” – Alaska until October.
