Truckee River Update – 3/22

We just got a few inches of snow last night in the Truckee area, hopefully more on the Summit. The snow pack is looking great, which should shape up for a productive April.  Lake Tahoe is starting to fill up, less than a foot from the rim! Flows have been fluctuating from about 700 to 1200 east of Truckee through the Canyon.  Lots of bugs have been coming out, but the flows are a bit high to get trout on the surface.  I’ve been streamer fishing and nymphing for the most part.  I like to fish olive and white streamers this time of year for big grabs.  Winter stones, BWO’s, and skwalas are making there appearance.  High flows, so you can’t go wrong with SJ’s, eggs, midges, and the occasional stone fly.  If you are using the indicator, make sure to add extra weight to your rig.  Fish the inside seams of the fast water and take your time fishing through a run.  I will be guiding until the end of April, then I am off to Alaska again for the summer.  This spring/summer should be good now that the Truckee is back in shape. Here are a few pictures from the past week.
